As a photographer my sensibilities have been greatly affected by my background in painting. Here the grey base was made with pallet knife and flat grey paint. While still wet, I added elements of black-dyed cheese cloth, adding colored chalk dust, and white pigment from a tiny squeeze bottle. As the abstraction of the painting evolved to my satisfaction, I decided to pluck some orange petals from a day Lilly. They were strategically placed. Last but not least, the most important element for a photographer: light. The directional light extracted the unique textures and served to unify the unconventional combination of elements. Integrating different artistic techniques can often result in captivating and unconventional outcomes.
